Bibs

This is a bit of a catch up post, my first attempt at making bibs, I just traced around one I already had, and went from there.  These were gifts for our antenatal group, such fun to catch up with them and meet all the bubs.  Very soon my little guy will be needing plenty of these, so I think ill get plenty of practice.  If you are after a proper pattern, I've found a couple of good ones here nested and here chickpea sewing studio.

Weekend in a flash

Wow that weekend just flew by, Saturday night was a very good friends hens night, what a good sport to do the whole veil thing, didn't think she had it in her!  My first evening away from the little guy, I made it through,  another one to go with the wedding in a couple of weeks.

Sunday was spent with my beautiful sister, for a lovely meander down semaphore road. Shes off to Brisbane, I'm really going to miss her. Well of course one of my favourite shops happens to be on Semaphore road .  I just went in for a look and came out with these beauties, luckily bubs was a little restless or more damage may have been done.  I just love these sweet little birds...

I cant wait to start learning to crochet, just the most lovely things in this book, think I will sign up for that WEA course.

Monte Carlos

These little sweeties were off to mothers group with me today.  Not to ashamed to admit they are from the Woman's weekly afternoon tea book, which has some real little sweet things in, I always think no matter what the book or era its from there is always something to learn, or an idea to take from it.
Loving this little book...
Monte Carlos
185 g unsalted butter softened
1 tsp vanilla extract
1/2 cup firmly packed brown sugar
1 egg
11/4 cup SR flour
3/4 cup plain flour
1/2 cup desiccated coconut
1/2 cup raspberry jam

Cream Filling
60g unsalt butter
3/4 cup icing sugar
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
2 tsp milk
Preheat oven to 180deg C
  1. Beat butter, extract and sugar until light and fluffy. Add egg, beat until combined. Stir in sifted flours and coconut.
  2. Shape level tsp of dough into ovals, place  about 4cm apart on trays, Rough surface with fork.
  3. Bake biscuits about 12 min.  Cool on trays.
  4. Meanwhile, make cream filling.  Beat butter, sugar and extract until light and fluffy, beat in milk.
  5. Place 1/2tsp each of jam and cream filling in centre of half the biscuits, top with remaining biscuit, gently press together.
My tips.  I use almond meal instead of plain flour, I also make them slightly bigger about 8-10g which makes about 40.  And I use a piping bag for piping on the filling, much quicker.

Oh and the enamel ware coffee pot in the back ground found at one small room which I absolutely love.

Lovely day

Even though the weather wasn't so great today, I managed to have a lovely day, so here it is.  This morning I finished off this little table, not quite what I envisaged, but it will do.  Bought for $15.00 at a second hand store, I forgot to take the before pic, just imagine an ugly brown laminated table.  Sitting on top is my new book SEW LA TEA DO by Pip at meet me at mikes, which hopefully isn't stuck there with paint, because I'm so impatient.  Cant wait to try my hand at some of the lovelies in here.  Also my beautiful ceramic lantern, which throws a beautiful light, a Christmas present from my lovely neighbour.
But here's the best bit of the day...
A visit from my best friend, and my gorgeous god daughter, although she is currently referring to me as god father, which will do just fine.  I have the most beautiful best friend ever.  If i could only have one friend and it was her, that would be ok with me.  These are stunning blooms from her garden, how lucky am I.  This is where they are residing now.
And look at this a very cute little gift for my bubba, cant wait to put it on him, one bonus the cold weather will bring.
What a lovely day...

Otchipotchi Goodies

I was so happy to hear the door bell this morning, and receive my little box of treasures from Otchipotchi a beautiful set of three wall vases, that look just like smooth rocks at the beach, that the waves have washed over countless times, and a gorgeous swallow, flown all the way from Portugal.  So chuffed eating my brecky admiring these beauties, contemplating exactly where they will go.  Thank you Paula.

Very first post

I cant quite explain why I really want this blog, or am not too fussed if no one visits but me.  I love looking at other blogs, mostly the pics and ideas.  Its a space that can be organised and pretty, when I can't make everything so in my life.  I guess its that neat and tidy room, with freshly laundered sheets, vacuumed and dusted, with neat piled drawers, and fresh flowers in the corner, and that is therapy for me.  Crazy I know!
